Shye Gilad: [00:00:00] And so what I see happening a lot is even when we can get to that point where we know what it is we want to do, it can still be hard to execute. So tactically, what are your thoughts on managing those. That inbound onslaught of Distraction.
David Wood: [00:00:13] Great. So I I wanna tell you guys some really concrete tips you can do to tame the monkey.
But first you, I want to talk about why we do this. Why would we be so scattered and, chasing monkey treats, as you say, as a business owner. And I think it’s because we want entertainment. Humans want motion. We’ll take any motion, actually, we’ll take up or down motion and the easiest motion to grab.
And you just got to look at how many people watch the news. Do you want some motion? Go and watch the news. You’ll take it downright. We want motion. We don’t want to stay stationary. With your partner, if you haven’t had enough motion, recently, one of you will pick a fight. Cause that’ll give you some motion downright.
It takes more deliberate action to go up. It’s so easy to get entertained as a business owner. I go and just go and check your email. You got like 20 different varieties of things. And then you’ve got Facebook, we’ll go and check that. And then we’ll try and multitask and do four different tasks at once because then we feel really busy.
Now, my theory is what it produces is dopamine and it produces adrenaline. And these are chemicals that can feel good and be addictive. But it’s not conducive to results. So if you want to feel busy and you want entertainment, I really think that’s fine. I honestly do. If the results don’t matter that much to you, just get up and check email in the morning, check your voice messages and just navigate by whatever feels right.
Good and right. I think that’s totally valid, but if you really want more revenue in a shorter period of time, and you would like to leverage your time so that you are working less and have more time to write a book or go to Nepal or spend with your kids, then it becomes really important to focus.
