As you know, goals are key to a successful business, and that’s why all of us need to set them. The problem with just setting a goal is that if we don’t have the right tools or plan in place, we often won’t reach our desired outcome.
In this interview, I share two big steps to take your productivity from good to great to reach your income goals!
I cover:
- The perfect system for staying accountable.
- THE effective way to check-in and make sure you’re on track.
- How to motivate yourself to do what you say you’ll do.

David Wood: [00:00:00] So we’ve just talked about a way that you can be super effective and super productive with your team. Let’s bring it back to ourselves because the first rule, the first routine, the first metric, if you like, is going to have to be for yourself. And what I recommend and this is week two, right?
We went through the nine areas. Week two is your productivity. Do you know, every week, what your goals are for the next seven days. Right. I ask every listener right now. Do you know, do you have it up on your wall as post-it notes or in Trello or whatever system you use? I don’t care what system you use, could be smoke signals. But do you know?
And let’s suppose you pause the recording. Yeah right now. And you write down your goals for the next seven days. Let’s suppose you do that. Serves you for the next week, but you’ll be lost the week after that. So I’ve decided the first rule. The number one thing for an entrepreneur is to put into your calendar, a regular CEO date with yourself.
20 minutes. Can be four o’clock on a Friday, four o’clock on a Sunday, 9:00 AM on a Monday, you choose put it in your calendar. And then here’s the second rule. You show up for that date. Now that’s hard to do. Because you’re busy, stuff’s going on. The kids knocking at the door or whatever. That’s hard to do.
So what I do is, again, if I do not have that date with myself, which might even be five minutes to set my goals for the next seven days. If I do not do that, I have to pay $5 to someone I dislike. You follow those two rules. You’re going to have direction for the rest of the year. If you do not do that.
Hey look, nothing bad’s going to happen. You just may not make as much money as you want. You may not have the time off that you want. You’ll be on the ocean without a rudder. And yeah, that can be a good time. So I’m not saying you have to do it. I’m just saying if you want direction and you’ve got goals that you want to achieve, these two rules can actually change your life.
